Work at Home Scams
Be Be aware of online work at home scams. These scams promise you instant success and riches or money without doing any work. Starting any legitimate "work at home" business involves work, dedication and ideas. Please read below.
Check With the Better Business Bureau. Know with whom you are dealing with. Research the organization. Is the company offering to employ you directly, or sell you training and materials.
Don’t believe that you can make a million dollars overnight. Operating a home-based business is just like any other business – it requires hard work, skill, researched products and/or services, and usually time to make a profit.
Make sure you know all the details before you pay. A legitimate company will tell you everything upfront.
Get references from other people who are working with the company. Find out if the company keeps its promises.
Know the refund policy. If you have to buy equipment or supplies, or make any type of investment, ask whether and under what circumstances you can receive a refund.
Find out what the market is for the job opportunity being offered. Claims that there are customers for work such as data entry, home typists, medical billing and craft making may not be true. Ask likely customers, research the market. Find out if any of the organizations actually employ people to work from home.
Beware of the “envelope stuffing” scam. In this classic scam, instead of getting materials to send out on behalf of a company, you get instructions to place an ad like the one you responded to, asking people to send you money for information about working at home. This is an illegal pyramid scheme because there is no real product or service being offered. You won’t get rich, and you could be prosecuted for fraud and receive a hefty fine.
